Transart foundation

Houston TX

Completed April 2018

The TransArt Foundation for Art & Anthropology is a space dedicated towards the production of knowledge. Influenced by the legacy of Dominique de Menil and places like Project Row Houses, the TransArt Foundation continues Houston’s tradition of fostering cultural impact through the exhibition of art. The project consists of two buildings; a new 3,000 square-foot primary building and a repurposed 1,200 square foot private art studio arranged along a paved court. The new building hosts artist installations and lecture events. Providing a much-needed intellectual space free from the modern trappings of art and commerce, TransArt is a space that instigates conversation and collaboration between disciplines.

The building won multiple design awards, including the Architect’s Newspaper ‘Design of the Year’ award in 2018 and has exhibited the works of artists such as Dawn DeDeaux, Mary Ellen Carroll, Milton Becerra, Violette Bule, and Gerardo Rosales.
